DONOR-ADVISED FUNDS

What is a donor-advised fund?
A donor-advised fund, or DAF, is a type of giving program that allows you to combine the most favorable tax benefits with the flexibility to easily support your favorite nonprofit organizations. DAFs are a great way to both simplify your charitable giving and facilitate your strategic philanthropic goals.

Do you manage a DAF with Fidelity, Schwab, or BNY Mellon?
You can initiate your grant recommendation via DAF Direct here.

Using a different DAF administrator?
No problem. Just ask them to direct your grant recommendation to IWT – The Real News Network (Tax ID: 01-0808098).

Why give via DAF?

  • Simplicity: The DAF sponsor handles all record-keeping, disbursements, and tax receipts.
  • Flexibility: The timing of your tax deduction can be separate from your charitable decision making.
  • Tax-efficiency: Contributions are tax-deductible and any investment growth in the DAF is tax-free. It is also easy to donate long term appreciated securities, eliminating capital gains taxes and allowing you to support multiple charities from one block of stock.
  • Family legacy: A DAF is a powerful way to build a tradition of family philanthropy.
  • No transaction fees: Once approved, 100% of your recommended grant goes to The Real News.
  • Privacy, if desired: We love to thank our donors, but donors may choose to remain anonymous to us.

DAFs are the fastest-growing charitable giving vehicle because they are one of the easiest and most tax-advantageous ways to give to causes you care about. It’s like an investment account for the sole purpose of supporting the nonprofits you care about most!

Many DAFs also allow you to recommend recurring annual grants. This eliminates the need for you to initiate the grant each year and ensures your ongoing support of our journalists and mission. Please contact Director of Development Rosette Sewali for more information.

STOCK + SECURITIES

We encourage supporters to consider making non-cash donations of stock and securities. It’s possible for you to receive larger tax savings and make a bigger impact by directly donating appreciated securities to The Real News.
